Audition Information
August and September 2009
The MYSO consists of two full symphony orchestras. The audition process is to determine which of the performing groups is best suited to the applicant's ability, but does not determine seating within the section. Auditions are by appointment only, and are conducted by the conductors and sectional coaches.

Practice rooms are available for warm-up.
Audition Requirements:
Auditions will last approximately 10 minutes, and will consist of a prepared piece, scales, and sight- reading. Knowledge of transposition is recommended for horn, trumpet and trombone players. Percussionists should be prepared to audition on timpani, snare drum and mallets.
The prepared piece, of your choice, will be performed without accompaniment, and should demonstrate your present level of accomplishment. Your selection does not have to be memorized, but you may perform from memory if you wish.
Scales: 2 or 3 octave scales in major and minor keys of choice.
Notification: You will be notified of audition results as soon as possible. Accepted members are required to submit membership application with annual dues.
Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra: $400.00
Private lessons: All MYSO members are expected to take private lessons on their instruments.
